DeLoris M. "Dutch" Gurney, 89 years, a life long resident of Monroe, MI passed away, Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 8:20 PM at Fountain View of Monroe. DeLoris was born January 21, 1918 in Monroe, MI, the daughter of the late Clarence P. and Loretta (Lieberman) Miller. On June 30, 1934 in Monroe, MI DeLoris married Donald S. Gurney. Sadly he preceded her in death on August 12, 1976. DeLoris was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. A homemaker, DeLoris enjoyed crocheting, especially making baby sweater sets, gardening and spending time with all of her precious grandchildren. DeLoris is survived by her 3 loving daughters: Joyce Ann (William) Lay of Carleton, MI, Mary (William) Garlic of Dundee, MI and Frances (Larry) Manwaring of Ida, MI; 1 brother: Norman, S. (Eleanor) Miller of Monroe, 4 sisters; Lola M. Nieswinder of Monroe, Fern Hardesty of Bloomfield, MI, Hazel (Michael) Williamson of LaSalle, MI and Phyllis (Fred) Mullendore of Monroe, 6 grandchildren; Janet, Paula, Kathy, Kim, Bill and Dennis, 10 great grandchildren; Kelly, Chris, Julie, Megan, Brea, Joe, William, Erica, Rachael, and Lamont, 6 great great grandchildren; Ethan, Collin, Kaleigh, Paige, Chris, and McKinzie. In addition to her spouse and parents, DeLoris was preceded in death by her son, J.D. Gurney, her daughter Pauline Gurney, her step parents Lucy Miller and Frank Stuwe, her granddaughter Penny Frederick and 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation for DeLoris will be held on Monday from 1 – 8 pm in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. On Tuesday, December 18, 2007 she will lie in state at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Larry K. Loree Sr. pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.
