David H. Mushung, age 82 of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio.
Born July 14, 1939 in Monroe, Dave was the son of the late Peter and Susanne (Braun) Mushung. He attended St. Michael Grade School, Monroe Catholic Central High School, and graduated from Monroe High School in 1957.
Shortly after graduating high school, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served from July 10, 1957 until being honorably discharged on August 12, 1960, serving aboard the U.S.S. Salisbury Sound, an AV-13 Seaplane Tender.
On October 26, 1963, Dave married Barbara Maple in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Together, they raised three children. Barb passed away 35 years later on July 5, 1998. Dave later married Beverly J. Revard on November 13, 1999 in St. Michael Catholic Church.
As a teenager, Dave worked for Quality Bakery for his dad. He also worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Monroe Upholstering, and the Monroe Credit Bureau where he retired from after 40 years of employment. He also worked part-time at Coldwell Banker Haynes Realty.
Dave was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he was baptized and confirmed, Monroe VFW Post 1138, and served on the Monroe Township Board of Review. During baseball and football season, Dave, along with his daughter and wife Beverly, would work concession stands at Detroit Tigers Stadium and the "Big House" at U of M to support gymnastic and cheerleading competition expenses for his granddaughter, Meaghan.
Dave is survived by his wife of 22 years, Beverly Mushung; three children, Lisa (Michael) Soncrant, Lance (Kelley) Mushung, and Jeremy (Pamela) Mushung, all of Monroe; two brothers, Robert Mushung of Vero Beach, FL and Charles (Elaine) Mushung of Monroe; four grandchildren, Joshua (Dana) Soncrant, Meaghan (John Alamo Cruz, Jr.) Soncrant, Erin Mushung, and Samantha Mushung; three great-grandsons, David Soncrant, Jaxson Soncrant, and John Cruz, III; three step-grandchildren, Richie, Emily, and Peighton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife Barb, Dave was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Jack Mushung; two sisters, Elaine Mushung and Joan Van Slambrouck; and infant step-son, Nicholas Revard.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until service at 6 p.m. Monday, June 20th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Monroe VFW will provide military honors followed by Rev. David Hively of Christ Lutheran Church. Cremation will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church.
Dave will be dearly missed by his family, his two best friends of 60 years, Gerald Held and George Hess, and special nephew, Dakota Mayes.
