David R. Kovl, 70 years, of Mason, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at UMH Sparrow Health System in Lansing, Michigan after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 21, 1955, in Flint, Michigan, Dave was the son of the late William and Sylvia I. (Pietras) Kovl. Dave was a 1973 graduate of Clio High School. He went on to attend Mott Community College in Flint and received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University where he majored in broadcasting and minored in journalism.
Dave served his country honorably and proudly as an MP (Military Police) in the United States Army. He served from 1980 to 1984, serving one of his four years in Korea. He received the Army Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
On May 24, 1980, Dave married the love of his life, the former Ann M. Potcova, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Monroe.
Dave worked for Chrysler Corporation for over 20 years. He retired in 2018 as a Pre-Production Specialist at the Auburn Hills headquarters.
Dave had a love for horses and trains. He volunteered at the Steam Railroading Institute, home of the steam locomotives Pere Marquette 1225 in Owosso, at the Durand Union Station, Amtrak in Lansing, and many years ago at Greenfield Village. He enjoyed antiquing and going to flea markets. Most of all Dave loved time spent with family.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Ann, two loving daughters: Alyssa A. (Craig) Froehlich of Baltimore, MD and Jessica M. (Joshua) Tindall of Williamston, MI, a cherished granddaughter, Madison and two brothers: Gerald (Evelyn) Kovl of Kalamazoo and Phillip (Joni) Kovl of Clio, MI.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by a brother, William.
In keeping with Dave's wishes cremation will be held. On Friday, January 2, 2025, memorial visitation will be held at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161 beginning at 10:00 am where a memorial service celebrating Dave's life will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
