David Henry Edwards, 78 years, of Monroe, MI, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the home of his daughter and son in law Brenda and Tim Norts in Erie, MI.
Born June 30, 1932 in Detroit, MI, David was the son of the late Joseph A. and Martha S. (House) Edwards. David attended school in Ann Arbor, MI and was a 1950 graduate of Ann Arbor High School. He went on to attend the University of Michigan where he received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1954 and was a member of the cheerleading squad. He was married to the former Laura Glazier.
David served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army from June 14, 1956 to June 13, 1958.
David was employed as a mechanical engineer for Willy's Jeep, which eventually became Chrysler, in Toledo, OH for 25 years. He then went to work for the City of Monroe as a mechanical engineer until his retirement in 1991.
David was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity at U of M and was very active with the Monroe Community Players. An artist, David enjoyed writing poetry, composing music and playing the piano
David is survived by his sister Shirley E. (John) Sentgerath of Fennville, MI, 3 loving daughters: Phyllis (Ken) Russell of Petersburg, MI, Brenda (Tim) Norts of Erie, MI and Donna (Ron) Russell of Alba, MI, 10 cherished grandchildren and 7 treasured great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister Martha Whippen.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 10:00 AM. The Rev. James Jacobs, Chaplain at Mercy Memorial Hospital, will officiate. Interment will follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, MI.
