Darlene F. Szuma, age 89, of Carleton, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026 in her home.

Darlene was born March 21, 1937 in Monroe, the daughter of Jack and Norma (Reichert) Staley. She was married to Walter Szuma, he preceded her in death September 12, 2012.

She was a graduate of Airport High School and earned an associate degree from Monroe County Community College, where she worked as an administrative assistant to the registrar before retirement.

She had attended Divine Grace Church (St. Patrick Campus). She, and her husband Walt, were avid birders and bowlers, and loved to travel.

She is survived by four children, Therese L. Sachs of Monroe, Michael W. (Robin) Szuma of Monroe, Tamara A. (Gerard) Masters of Center Twp., PA, and Lisa K. Szuma of Monroe; a sister Janice Oberleiter of Carleton; eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Randy D. Sachs; and two sisters, Jackie Boudrie and Joyce Bryson.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 8, 2026 from 12 – 7 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe. Private grave side services will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery, Carleton.
