Darleen M. Guernsey, age 91 of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2022 at Cherry Hill Nursing and Rehab in Westland, MI. She had been in declining health for two years.
Born August 10, 1930 in Clio, MI, Darleen was the daughter of the late Vivian and Lenore (Kerry) Cornell. She graduated from Houghton Lake High School in 1948 and married William A. Guernsey on March 12, 1949 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Together they raised four children. He preceded Darleen in death on June 2, 1997.
Darleen was employed by Memorial Hospital and Mercy Memorial Hospital for 21 years as a housekeeper, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed cooking, NASCAR, Detroit Tigers Baseball, and was an avid Detroit Red Wings Hockey fan. She always preferred being a homemaker and Mom. She loved children so much she became a Foster Parent for several years.
Darleen is survived by her children, Mary Kay Friedline of Monroe, Kathleen Weber of Monroe, Karol (Mike) Kruger of Ludington, MI, and Ralph "Bill" (MacKenzie) Guernsey of Newport; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Darleen was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Richard Cornell; five sisters, Margaret Shonts, Vivian Welch, Neoma Doyle, Maxine McComb, and Rosemary Soderman.
Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation and burial arrangements. Interment will be privately attended by family at St. Joseph Cemetery. A celebration of Darleen's life will be held at a later date.
