Darla J. Guthrie, age 85 of Monroe, passed away Friday. December 1, 2023 in her home.
Born December 29, 1937 in Monroe, Darla was the daughter of the late Maynard and Kathryn (Aldridge) Meadows. She married Thomas E. Guthrie on August 25, 1956 at St. Michael Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2021. Together with family, they spent many wonderful years together at "Camp Wha-Who II", their cabin up north in Harrison.
Darla was all about family, especially looking after her grandkids. She embraced being a wife, mother, grandma, and homemaker. When she wasn't caring for family, she enjoyed reading, camping, trap shooting, and an occasional bowl of ice cream. She also liked baking and worked in the bakery at Hi-Lite for 13 years. Darla was a life member of the Monroe County Rod and Gun Club where she previously served as President of its Ladies Auxiliary.
Darla is survived by 5 children: Thomas (Connie) Guthrie of Monroe, Pamela (Mike Rowell) Guthrie of Monroe, Lori (Charles) Stevens of Monroe, Susan (Charmagne) Guthrie of Ypsilanti, MI, and Richard (Michelle) Guthrie of Monroe; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Darla was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Butler, and a grandson, Brock Eckert.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8th. Rev. Rick Massingill, Pastor of North Monroe Street Church of God will officiate, followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
