Daniel John Schwab, age 70, of Monroe passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026, at home.

The son of Arthur A. and Hulda (Hammerbacher) Schwab, Dan was born April 4, 1956, in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan, going on to graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree and then from University of Toledo with his MBA. He was also a certified public accountant.

Right out of school Dan accepted a job with a Monroe CPA firm that did audits for Monroe County Community College which later led to his work as the head accountant at Monroe County Community College for 27 years before his retirement in 2011.

Dan was an outdoorsy man. He loved birding and golfing, and generally just being out in nature. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends and family, he was a longtime member of the Monroe Exchange Club.

He is survived by his brother, Lester (Kay) Schwab of Lititz, PA; nieces and nephews, Greg (Darci) Sieggreen of Hudsonville, MI, Wendy (Brent) Vanderheide of Williamsburg, MI, Steve (Cindy) Sieggreen of Hudsonville, MI, Brent Schwab of Bradenton, FL, and Kara (Gilbert) Groff of Elizabethtown, PA.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carol Fitzgerald and Mary Schwab.

In accordance with Dan’s wishes, cremation has been held, Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
