Daniel H. Jewell, 85 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Medilodge of Monroe.
Born January 10, 1931 in Saline, Michigan, Dan was the son of the late Harold and Lorita (Weipert) Jewell.
After graduation Dan entered the US Navy where he served his county honorably and proudly during the Korean War. He served from 1948 to 1952 and was awarded the Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asian Clasp, Korean Service Medal with 2 Battle Stars, United Nations Service Medal and The Purple Heart.
On February 25, 1968, Dan married the former Betty J. Kiefer in Monroe.
Dan worked as a diesel mechanic for McClouth Steel in Trenton, from which he retired.
Dan was a life member of the VFW Post 3943 in Newport, MI, Brest Bay Sportsman's Club, and the Hiram Masonic Lodge #110 in Flat Rock, MI. Dan always had to stay busy and enjoyed hunting, gardening, yard work, and building pull behind trailers. Most of all Dan enjoyed time spent with family.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Betty, eight loving children: Judy Jewell of Albuquerque, NM, Rev. Harold (Deb) Jewell of Coldwater, MI, Jill (Jake) Parks of Mt. Sterling, KY, Jack Jewell of Adrian, MI, Dennis (Tammy) Jewell of Lebanon, TN, David Jewell of Monroe, MI, Joan (John) Beaton of Carleton, MI and Jean Jewell of Monroe, two sisters: Marian Young of Saline, MI and Marjorie Musser of Hudsonville, MI, Many grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
In addition to his parents Dan was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Jewell and a brother, Ralph Jewell.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-7 PM with a Masonic Service at 6:00 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161, where funeral services celebrating Dan's life will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Dan's son, the Rev. Harold Jewell, pastor of Oasis of Love Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor, MI.
