Daniel Lee Gorowski, 73 years, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, formerly of Monroe, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in his home.

Born March 5, 1953, in Monroe, Dan was the son of the late Walter J. and Juanita M. (Aiston) Gorowski. Dan was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. A 1971 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School, he participated in both football and track. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Northern Michigan University, followed by a master's degree in education. Dan was employed by North Star Steel in Monroe, from which he retired after over 30 years of employment. Dan married Katie A. Burroughs in Monroe, and together they raised three daughters.

Dan was a devout University of Michigan football fan who found joy in life's simple pleasures. You could find him every morning enjoying a cup of coffee on his porch feeding the birds and catching up with neighbors. Dan had a lifelong love of card games and was known for his skill at the table. Whether playing cribbage or a spirited game of Magic, he enjoyed the friendly competition and was rarely easy to beat. Family and friends always looked forward to gathering around the table, where Dan's quick wit, choice words, and strategic mind, made every game memorable. Dan loved cooking, especially firing up the grill, trips to the casino, and he took pride in his beautifully maintained yard and garden.

Above all else, Dan cherished his family. A devoted father to his three daughters and a proud Papa to his four grandchildren, he treasured every moment spent with them. Over the years, he coached each of his daughters in softball, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Later, he could often be found cheering from the sidelines at his grandchildren's baseball games, swim meets, and volleyball matches. For Dan, nothing mattered more than family.

Dan is survived by his three loving daughters; Nicole G. (Payman) Mahjoory of Northville, Ann E. (Kyle) Thornton of Apopka, FL, and Emily C. (fiancé, Greg Simerly) Gorowski of Lambertville, four cherished grandchildren; Minah, Maxine, Johnathan, and Jackson, a brother; Mike (Wennie) Gorowski of Adrian and a sister-in-law; Sandy Gorowski of Ida.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother John.

In keeping with Dan’s wishes, cremation has been held. A memorial gathering for Dan will be held at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, on Saturday, August 8, 2026 beginning at 1:00 pm and will conclude with a prayer service at 4:00 pm.
