Daniel Thomas Batista, 84 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in his home with his beloved wife at his side.
Born February 27, 1941, in Monroe, Dan was the son of the late Nick and Edwina (Phillips) Batista. He attended Boyd Elementary School, Cantrick Middle School and was a 1959 graduate of Monroe High School. Dan went on to receive his bachelor's degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University in 1963.
Dan served his country honorably and proudly as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1968.
On June 18, 1966, Dan married his beloved wife, the former Patricia Ann Taylor, at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe.
Dan spent his working career as a Human Resources Director. He started out in the banking industry working at Rossford Savings Bank and then for National Bank of Detroit. He then found opportunity in the oil industry and worked for American Natural Resources Company, Coastal Corporation, Enron, and Northern Natural Gas Company from which he retired in 2005.
Dan was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and a Deacon. Dan has been very involved in the church's Bed Ministry since its inception, even participating in the first bed race held at the church. He was also a member of the NRA, Sportsman's Club in Lambertville and Frenchtown Center for Active Adults where he enjoyed playing Ping Pong. After retirement, Dan and Pat traveled throughout the United States in their Road Trek Motor Home eventually ending up in Florida for the winter each year. More than anything, Dan loved time spent with family and friends.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Pat; two loving sons: Steven D. of New York, NY, and Brian E. of Phoenicia, NY; two cherished grandchildren: Milo and Eve; a sister, Sandra Saferin of Toledo, OH; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many wonderful friends.
In keeping with Dan's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, Michigan, 48161, visitation will begin at 10:00 am. The Rev. Dr. Doris Chandler, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
