Cynthia Mae Burns, age 71 of Monroe, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023 in her home.
Born December 27, 1951 in Monroe, Cindy was the daughter of Gerald and Grace (Cronenwett) Dyson. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1970 and married Edward C. Burns on December 1, 1978 at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Cindy attended Monroe County Community College and Western Michigan University.
Cindy had a long working career with Monroe Public Schools. Collectively, she was employed as a Secretary, Administrative Assistant, and Truancy Officer for 38 years before retiring in 2013.
Cindy was a member and former volunteer at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and active member of the Michigan Education Association. She was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and a huge supporter of Monroe High School. Her hobbies included playing and umpiring softball, and bowling.
Cindy is survived by two children, Dory (Ryan) Philbeck and Scott (Jessica) Burns, both of Monroe; father, Gerald Dyson of Newport, MI; four siblings, Edward (Bonnie) Dyson of Newport, Laura (Al) Schaberg of Stevensville, MI, Kathy (John) Fowler of Monroe, and Susan Black of Caldonia, MI; seven grandchildren: Reagan, Blake, Briggs, Brynn, Vivienne, CC, and Sadie.
Cindy was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Dyson; sister, Pam Zinner; and niece and Goddaughter, Staci Rugila.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9th at Bacarella Funeral Home where a Scripture Service will be held at 6 p.m. Cindy will lie in state the following day, Friday, at St. John Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Rev. Fr. Michael Anagbogu. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date.
