Courtney Nicole Schember, age 31, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.

Courtney was born May 5, 1995 in Ann Arbor, she was the daughter of Philip D. and Stephanie P. (Balk) Schember.

She was a 2013 graduate of Glenbard High School in Carol Stream, IL. She continued her education at Eastern Michigan University earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

Courtney enjoyed making bracelets, she loved listening to pop music, especially One Direction. She absolutely loved her animals, Grace and Chloe.

She is survived by her dad and stepmom; Philip and Holley Schember of Allen Park; two siblings; Nick P. Schember and Lauren E. Schember of Monroe; her grandmother, Marie Schember and two stepbrothers, Aiden Heivilin and Owen Heivilin.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Stephanie Schember and grandparents, Peter and Eileen Balk and Duane Schember.

In accordance with Courtney’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will take place at a later date. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions in her memory are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation.
