Connie Dale Bussell, age 72 of Monroe, MI, went to be with the Lord at 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Born March 19, 1954 in Monroe, Connie was the 4th of six children born to the late Lester and Mary (White) Evans. She attended Monroe Public Schools and married Vernon Edward Bussell on April 15, 1976 in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded Connie in death on January 17, 2021 after almost 45 years of marriage.
Connie embraced being a homemaker and anyone who knew her knows that she loved Jesus and her family. She was a member of Union Street Missionary Baptist Church and former member of the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe. She loved flowers, gardening, canning, cooking and baking, and the color pink! She had a caring fondness for animals which included squirrels and hummingbirds.
Time spent with her sisters made her happy. Connie would often say she wouldn’t know what to do without them. She was a mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and aunt who frequently said “ I love you more than ANYTHING”. She had a special love for her great-grandson, Lincoln. If his mother came to visit without him, she would ask “Where’s my baby”?
Connie is survived by her three children, Steven Whiteaker, Brian (Carey) Whiteaker, and Missy Bussell; two grandchildren, Erik (Angie) Whiteaker and Megan (Ryan) LaChapelle; two sisters, her “shopping partner”, Sylvia Laney, and Darlene (Greg) Quick; great-grandson, Lincoln LaChapelle; and her canine companion, Emma Jean.
In addition to her parents and husband, Connie was preceded by two sisters, Helen McMillian and Sheila Turner; brother, Jack Evans; and grandson, Darrin Whiteaker.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Family friend and relative, Rev. Ron Morgan will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
