Claudette Kay O'Dell, 68 years, of Monroe, MI, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 4:15 PM in her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe. Kay had been in declining health for 1 year and seriously ill for the past 3 weeks.
Born November 17, 1943 in Bunch, OK, Kay was the daughter of the late Jesse and Juanita (Longshore) Monday. The family moved to Monroe in 1946. Kay attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1961 graduate of Monroe High School.
On July 8, 1961 in Monroe, Kay married her beloved husband Bob W. O'Dell.
Kay was employed as a secretary by the State of Michigan's Department of Natural Resources division for 30 years. She retired in July of 1997.
Kay enjoyed genealogy, crocheting and reading. She especially enjoyed reading Stephen King novels as she enjoyed mysteries and crime stories. Kay was also a member of the Sac & Fox Nation of Oklahoma.
Nothing brought Kay more joy than her family especially her grandchildren. Kay is survived by her loving husband of 50 years; Bob W. O'Dell, her loving son Robert B. O'Dell of Monroe, 2 cherished grandchildren; Tiffani and Tyler, 2 brothers; Donald (Jorda) Monday of Monroe and  Clifford (Hattie) Monday of Stilwell, OK and her sister in law and best friend Judy Shinevarre, who cared for her during her last days.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe where funeral services celebrating Kay's life will be held on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Gary Pickrell will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Due to Thursday being Thanksgiving, Kay's family wishes everyone to spend that day with their families.
