Claude E. "Ed" Layne, 58 years of LaSalle, MI. passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 11:38 AM in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, OH. where he had been for 8 days. Ed was born October 24, 1948 in Oceana, W.V. the son of the late John H. and Earthel (Roberts) Lane. On June 22, 1970 Ed married his best friend Patricia A. Mack in Ecorse, MI. They moved to LaSalle in 1978. Ed worked as a heavy equipment operator for McClouth Steel in Trenton for 24 years until the plant closed. He was currently employed as a heavy equipment operator for Ohio Pickling and Processing Plant in Toledo, OH. Ed was an avid Beagler. He was a member and past board member of the Monroe-Toledo Beagle Club. Ed enjoyed rabbit hunting, blue grass music and the outdoors. Ed is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, 3 loving children; Leonard E. (Kari) Layne of Newport, MI, Benjamin D. (Theresa) Layne of Monroe, MI and Michealene "Mickey" (Martin) Aguilera of Monroe, MI. a brother Jesse Lane of Jacksonville, FL, 3 sisters; Louise (Pete) Marcum of Benson, AZ, Freda Lane of Benson, AZ. and Joyce (Tony) Martinez of Denver, CO. Ed is also survived by 6 cherished grandsons. In addition to his parents Ed was preceded in death by a sister and a brother Dwayne Lane. Ed's family will receive friends on Monday from 1-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. David Lane, Mr. Layne's nephew from Fort Myers, FL. and the Rev. T. Leslie Hobbins pastor of Lewis Avenue Baptist Church in Temperance, MI will officiate.
