Obituary

Christine (Hudson) Vining, 89, of Monroe, Michigan passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Fountain View Nursing Facility where she resided since June, 2022. Born April 26, 1933 in Swainsboro, Emanuel County Georgia; she was one of eleven children born to the late John Samuel and Emma Jane Hudson. The Hudson family relocated to Monroe, Michigan in 1949.
Christine attended Blundell Schools in Georgia and Dundee High School in Dundee, Michigan. Early in life, Christine married a USAF Technical Sergeant and lived in various states during this time. She later returned to Monroe and made it her permanent residence. She was a life-long homemaker and babysat out of her home for family and friends for over 50 years.
Christine was a member of Temple of Prayer under the leadership of the late Reverend Clay Holland for 28 years. She later became a member of Canaan Land Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Jack Branham and Christian Life Center Church under the leadership of Pastor Henry J. Healey until the church closed. She had a deep respect for pastors who taught the true word of God.
Christine was very much a people person and loved conversing with everyone. She enjoyed spending time sitting under her shade tree on hot summer days communing with family and friends. She enjoyed planting flowers in her yard and growing vegetables in pots. She loved cooking and budget shopping at second hand stores. She had an open-door policy in her home for her children and grandchildren; they always knew they had a place to lay their head and food to eat if needed.
She was always excited when her "Flint" friends, Elder Robert Allen and his lovely wife Teresa, would come to visit with her. A longstanding Orchard East resident, she made many special friends over the years: Annie Nelle Toles, Myrna Stockard, Leona Mignano, the late Olivia Chappell, the late Selma Rankins, the late Ruth Richardson and several others.
Christine leaves to cherish her memory ten children: Linda (John) Tyree – Temperance, MI, Sylvonnah Harvard – Charlotte, NC, Valeria (Damon) Calvert – Monroe, MI, Rhonda (Adrian) McKay – London, England, Carol (Charles) Wilson – Monroe, MI, Christina (Tyrone) Payne – Holland, OH, Cranston Campbell – Monroe, MI, Barron (Dannette) Campbell – Monroe, MI, David Campbell – Monroe, MI, Daniel (Doris) Hudson – Monroe, MI and her great nephew Levon (Maria) Hudson whom she raised as her son – Monroe, MI. Thirty-seven grandchildren, sixty-two great -grandchildren and eighteen great-great -grandchildren; two brothers, Edward F. Hudson of Southfield, MI, Joe L. "Buddy" Hudson and his wife, Gene of Sacramento, CA and daughter-in-law Helen Vining of Ann Arbor, MI.
