Cheryl L. Rivard, age 75 of Carleton, MI, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 14, 2024 in her home.
Born March 20, 1949 in Warren, OH, Cheryl was the daughter of the late Horace "Bud" and Ann (Elinsky) Barclay. On November 9, 1968, she married Earl H. Rivard at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wyandotte and later moved to Monroe County in 1979.
Cheryl completed her nursing degree studies at Monroe County Community College and was employed as a Registered Nurse by Wyandotte Hospital and Mercy Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2004.
An active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Newport, Cheryl formerly served on the church Parish Council and the Advent Tea Planning Committee. She also served as Board Chairman for Monway Clinic, now known as the Family Medical Center, the Monroe County Commission on Aging, and member of the Swan Creek Garden Club.
When Cheryl wasn't busy volunteering her time by serving her church and community, she enjoyed reading, flower gardening, collecting china, baking, and of course, doting on her grandchildren.
Cheryl is survived by husband of 56 years, Earl Rivard; son, Jason (Kristy) Rivard of Monroe; sister, Karen (Lee) Brown of Liberty Township, OH; two grandchildren, Sophia and Thomas Rivard; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Cheryl will lie in state at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the church Pastor, Rev. Fr. Henry Rebello. Cremation will follow with private burial at St. Charles Cemetery at a later date.
To honor Cheryl's commitment of the importance of a Catholic faith-based education, the family asks that any monetary acts of kindness be directed to St. Charles School in lieu of flowers.
