Cheryl Ellen Petty, age 74, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 in her home surround by her family.
Cheryl was born April 3, 1948 in Hammond, Indiana; she was the daughter of Kenneth J. and Virginia E. (Rinehold) Hammer. She married the love of her life Steven Murray Petty on March 15, 1969, they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2019.
Cheryl attended New Haven Public Schools in New Haven, Indiana and graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She also attended Fort Wayne Public School of Nursing and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Cheryl was employed at Flower Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. After moving to Monroe, Michigan, she was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at various nursing homes. Cheryl was also employed as a Paraprofessional Aide at Monroe County Intermediate School District and the Jefferson Public Schools and enjoyed working with children.
Cheryl enjoyed crocheting and catering events in Monroe County area and being with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping with her family.
Cheryl is survived by her husband of 53 years, Steven Petty; her three children she dearly loved S. Michael (Debra) Petty, Michelle Ellen Ellison and Matthew Scott (Jessica) Petty and five grandchildren, Collin M. Petty, Andrew S. Petty, Jordan M. Petty, Elijah S. Ellison and Ella C. Petty.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gerald Bruce Hammer, who was an honored paramedic, and a sister Janice M. Ellis.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Harold Raines, pastor of Monroe Full Gospel Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
