Obituary

Charles Clayton Robertson, 85 years of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 12, 2011.
Born April 30, 1925 in Speedwell, TN, Clayton was the son of the late James Marion and Maggie (Ellison) Robertson. Clayton was a member of the Monroe High Class of 1944. Clayton's graduation was delayed due to his entry into the US Marines.
Clayton served his country honorably as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater.
On February 17, 1946, Clayton married his beloved wife the former Betty Jones in Middlesboro, KY.
Clayton worked as a production superintendent at Jefferson Smurfit Corporation in Monroe for 44 years.
Clayton was a member of the DAV 1st Marine Division Association, Monroe Lodge F&AM and Royal Arch Masons of which he was a past High Priest. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Dundee Baptist and Monroe Missionary Baptist churches. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and deer hunting.
Most of all Clayton enjoyed his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Betty, 3 loving children; Charles E. (Shelly) Robertson of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Michael D. Robertson of Clearwater, FL, and S. Lisa (Mark) Cain of LaGrange, KY, 4 cherished grandchildren; Micah (Angela) and Jesse Cain of Louisville, KY, Lauren and Alexandra Robertson and their mother Janet Robertson of Clearwater FL, a brother; Merl (Imogene) Robertson of Monroe, 4 sisters; Edith Keene of Whitehouse, OH, Geraldine (Lee) Brancheau of Little River, SC, Anne Davis of Navasoto, TX and Christine Robertson of Toledo, OH.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe. He will lie in state on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until funeral services celebrating his life at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Monroe Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund or to Hospice of Louisville, KY.
