Charles W. Foster

Charles W. Foster, 95 years, of Monroe, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 15, 2017 at his home. Born January 30, 1922 in Hudson, Michigan Chuck was the son of the late James Grover and Bessie Ann (Derickson) Foster. The family moved to Monroe when he was a child. Chuck attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1940 graduate of Monroe High School. While serving in the United States Army he attended both the University of Oregon and Stanford University in California. On November 27, 1943 Chuck married his beloved wife, the former Regina Baird at First United Methodist Church in Monroe, whom he met at the Floral City Roller Skating Rink. Sadly, Regina preceded him in death on February 12, 2008 after 65 years of marriage. Chuck served his country honorably and proudly in United States Army during WWII. He served from 1942 - 1945 in both Italy and Africa. For his service he received 2 Overseas Service Bars, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbons with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. Chuck worked as a self employed truck driver for Algers in Detroit. He then went to work for Oerther Brothers Trucking from which he retired in 1983. Chuck was a member of Monroe First Church of the Nazarene, a life member of the VFW Post 3925 in Erie, MI, The Teamsters, and the Black Hawk Motorcycle Club in Temperance, MI for over 60 years. He was also a member of the AMA and was a member of their 1 Million Mile Club. Chuck lived for his family and riding his bike. He and Regina road from coast to coast, including at least 15 trips to California and back, in the USA and Canada and usually on the beautiful back roads instead of the interstates. He even road to Alaska when he was 80 years old, along with his son, Bob and two of his nephews, Denny and Larry. Chuck always claimed that, you haven't seen the mountains and countryside until you see them from a motorcycle. Besides riding his bike, spending time with his family members, he loved spending hours with his 2nd family; his senior friends, whom he called "Kids", at Burger King. Chuck is survived by three loving children: Bill (Sandy) Foster of LaSalle, Bob (Dawn) Foster of Carleton and Bonnie (Rod) Simmons of Nashville, TN, eight cherished grandchildren, 15 treasured great grandchildren and 11 adored great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a grandson: Robert Charles "Hotdog" Foster, a brother: Leon and three sisters Henrietta, Maxine, and Gwen. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM and Tuesday from 2-8 PM at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161 where funeral services celebrating Chuck's life will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Chuck's nephew the Rev. Ross Corne will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, where the VFW Post 3925 will conduct military honors. Memorial gifts in Chuck's name are suggested to Ronald McDonald House or the Monroe County Special Olympics.
