Charles Wesley Collins, age 81, of Monroe, MI, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 3:48 AM in his home. He had been in poor health for the past 6 months. Charles was born November 22, 1926 in Black Star, KY the son of the late Daniel and Almeda (Satterfield) Collins. On February 8, 1947 in Middlesboro, KY Charles married his beloved wife the former Opal M. Duncan. Sadly she preceded him in death on June 21, 2006. In 1949 Charles and Opal moved to Monroe from Tazewell, TN to raise their family. Charles was employed by General Motors working as a paint inspector at the Fleetwood Fisher Body Plant for 37 years, retiring in 1986. Charles was a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Charles is survived by his 3 loving children; Wayne Collins of Colorado Springs, CO, Charlene (Kevin) VonOtten and Rita Abel, both of Monroe, 8 grandchildren; Mike, Earl, Brian, Jeremy, David, Christina, Matthew and Lindsay, 6 great grandchildren and 2 sisters; Edna Czajka of Roanoke, VA and Lorraine (Elmer) Martin of Covington, KY. In addition to his wife and parents Charles was preceded in death by his daughter Carolyn Sue Collins, 8 Brothers and 4 sisters. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2008 from 4-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, Monroe. He will then be taken to Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell, TN where visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Richard Nicely of Emory Valley Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Watson's Chapel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe or Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.
