Charlene Leona Long, age 74, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Elderly Solutions.
Charlene was born January 2, 1952, in Rome, NY, the daughter of John Richard and Marjorie Lois (Ingersoll) Dawes. On November 22, 1980, she married James Edward. Long and celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary before he passed on March 25, 2026.
Charlene was a Certified Nurse Assistant, a care giver by nature; she enjoyed caring for others. She loved to read and was a member of Gateway Ana Baptist Church.
She is survived by siblings: Marjorie (Ronald) Sutton, James (Nina) Dawes and Gary Dawes. Nieces: Connie (Jeff) Agius, Bonnie (A.J.) Moser, Cindy Callahan, and Jennifer Long. Nephews: David (Kim) Long, Jeremy Long, and their families.
In addition to her husband, she’s preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, William Best; daughter, Jamie VanSlambrouck, Angel babies, Noah and Lukas; a sister, Alice La Blanc; two brothers, Larry Dawes and Rickey Best; brother-in-law, Robert Long, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Michele Long; nephews, Ronald Sutton and Robert Long, Jr.
Visitation will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. Friday August 28, 2026, at Bacarella Funeral Home, (1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe). Funeral services begin at 4 p.m. officiated by Rev. David Ickes (pastor of Gateway Anabaptist Church). In accordance with her wish’s cremation will follow and inurnment will take place at a later date at Deerfield Twp. Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
