Carol Jean Fruchey, age 87 of Monroe, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Born September 21, 1937 in Toledo, OH, Carol was the daughter of the late Merle and Golden (Bowen) Stewart. She graduated from Whitney Vocational High School in Toledo in 1955. She married Norman E. Fruchey on May 26, 1958 in Toledo and moved to Monroe. Together they raised seven children. Sadly, Norman preceded her in death on July 18, 1996.
No stranger to work, Carol had a long work history that includes Ida Public Schools, Monroe County Intermediate School District, North Star Greenhouse, True Value Hardware while residing in Robertsville, AL from 1994-2005, and Joyce Meyer Ministries while living in Fenton, MO. She put her labors to rest when she retired in 2006.
Carol was an active member of Stewart Road Church of God where she volunteered her time and talents in many capacities. Her passion for studying the Bible led her to attend Charis Bible College for a year. She also attended Monroe County Community College for two years.
Carol had many hobbies and interests to occupy her spare time. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, sewing, crocheting, cooking, gardening, canning, and even became a Master Gardener.
Carol is survived by her children: Barbara (Gary) Kopke of Newport, MI, Diane Watson of Silverhill, AL, Terrie Ferguson of Colby, KS, Ronald Fruchey of Indianapolis, IN, Leroy (Nadia) Fruchey of Sutherland, VA, and Elizabeth (Matthew) Pifer of Monroe; brother, Kenneth (Hazel) Stewart of Archibold, OH; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by a son, Richard Fruchey; grandson, Brent Fruchey; and sisters-in-law, Terry and Sally Fruchey.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Carol will lie in state Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Stewart Road Church of God with funeral beginning at 11 a.m. Executive Pastor, Rev. Jonathan Chavous will officiate. Private burial will occur at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Per Carol's request, all attendees of the funeral are asked to wear colorful attire if possible to celebrate her homecoming. Also, please consider a memorial donation to her church in lieu of flowers.
