Carol E. (Maurer) Diekman

Carol E. (Maurer) Diekman, age 92, of Monroe, Michigan entered her Heavenly home on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Carol had been residing at University Living in Ann Arbor, MI. for the past several years. Born July 2, 1923 in Monroe, Carol was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha K. (Rentschler) Guettler. Carol was a 1941 graduate of Monroe High School and went on to attend Michigan State University. On February 27, 1945 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Carol married Robert H. Maurer. Sadly, he preceded her in death on April 5, 1972. On April 29, 1983 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Carol married Charles Diekman. Sadly, he too preceded her in death on July 23, 2000. Carol, along with her husband, Bob, owned B&B Box Company in Toledo, OH. After Bob's death, Carol ran the company as its president until selling the business in 1982 to their long-time business associate, Bernie Hammer. Carol was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Monroe and its Altar Society, Monroe Golf and Country Club, and Golfcrest Garden Club. Carol loved her long daily walks, golfing, dancing, playing bridge, and gardening. She was also a Camp Fire Girls of America leader and volunteered in the community and her children’s schools for many years. She especially enjoyed long walks on the beach in Long Boat Key, Florida, where she spent the winter months. Along with running a business and her many activities, Carol enjoyed being a homemaker–she was a wonderful cook and loved time spent with family. Carol will be deeply missed by her five loving children: Carla A. (Michael) Miller of Ann Arbor, Shelly E. (David) Hehl of Monroe, Gretchen L. (Ray Conner) Maurer of Chesapeake, VA, Heidi C. (Michael) Burroughs of Monroe and Robert H. (Mary) Maurer of Alexandria, VA; nine cherished grandchildren: Matthew, Marcus, and Bradley Hehl, Charles and Stephanie Wineland, Hollie John, Elizabeth Burroughs, and Trey and Megan Maurer; seven treasured great grandchildren: Briggs, Boston, Ethan, Aiden, Jack, and Brooke Hehl, and Ashley Crossman; and a son in law: Charles Wineland of Monroe. In addition to her parents and husbands, Carol was preceded in death by a daughter, Andrea Wineland. In keeping with Carol's wishes, there will be no visitation. Private services will be held and she will be interred at Roselawn Memorial Park. Carol’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care given to their mother by Hospice Compassus and the staff at University Living. Carol touched the hearts of many with her kindness and loving spirit. If you wish to make a memorial contribution, Carol and her family have been and are still currently very involved with SMCC, Meadow Montessori School, and the Alzheimer's Association.
