Rev. Burton L. Johnson, age 88, of Petersburg, MI, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 28, 2025 surrounded by his family. He resided with his daughter, Sharonlee since 2024, prior to that he lived in Monroe.
Born to Isaac "Shelby" and Reba (Walker) Johnson on January 1st, 1937 in Claiborne County, TN. He married the love of his life, Janice (Hensley) Johnson on August 6, 1954, they were blessed with five children: 2 daughters and 3 sons and 62 years together.
Burton and Janice moved to Monroe in 1955 and he became employed at the GM Hydramatic Plant in Toledo, OH for 45 years before taking a medical retirement in 2002. During his lifetime he preached and taught Sunday school at various churches. He was a follower of the Free Pentecostal Holiness faith but fellowshipped with many others. He loved talking about the Lord and through the years was a rock to many.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharonlee (James) Parsons of Petersburg, MI, Dixie (Simon) Turner of Jackson, KY; son, Mark of Petersburg; daughter-in-law, Christine Reck-Johnson of Heroldbach Germany; sister, Lillian (Johnson) Hensley of Ewing, VA, 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janice in 2016; 2 sons, David and Jonathan, his parents and a brother, Jerry.
In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place; Bacarella Funeral Home has assisted the family with arrangements. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 12 – 1:30 p.m. at Monroe Missionary Bible Baptist Church, 15543 Spruce Street, Monroe, MI 48161. A luncheon will follow. The family encourages all to attend and share the stories that made Rev. Burton special to each of you.
