Obituary

Bruce M. McEwan, 61 years, of Carleton, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Bruce had been in declining health for the past year.
Born July 26, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan, Bruce was the son of H. Glen and Bettie Jo (Knox) McEwan. Bruce was a 1970 graduate of Airport High School and had attended Monroe County Community College.
On February 24, 1973 Bruce married the love of his life, the former Patty Ann Knapp at First United Methodist Church in Monroe.
Bruce was employed as a supervisor for Monsanto in Trenton for 26 years from which he retired in 2004. Bruce was currently employed by Ruhlig Farms in Carleton, where he was an equipment operator, and assisted with construction and maintenance.
Bruce was a member of First United Methodist Church in Monroe. Bruce volunteered much of his time at Airport Community Schools where he served on the board of education for eight years. Bruce was the announcer for the Airport High School varsity football, basketball and baseball games. He also coached Airport High School freshman girl's basketball and was the assistant varsity girl's basketball coach under head coach Carl Graves. Bruce also worked closely with John Warren for the varsity softball program. Bruce enjoyed golfing, coaching and building homes. More than anything Bruce loved time spent with family.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years: Patty, two loving daughters: Melissa K. (Jerry) Morin of Woodhaven, MI and Heidi E. (Jason) Ruhlig of Carleton, six cherished grandchildren: Grace and Leland Morin, and Tayton, Chloe, Sophia, and Amelia Ruhlig, his mother: Betty Jo McEwan of Carleton, a brother: John (Julie) McEwan of Atlanta, MI, and a sister Glenda (Myrl) Galdeen of Monroe.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father H. Glen McEwan and his grandparents: John and Frankie Knox.
Bruce's family will greet friends on Thursday from 12 noon to 8:00 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd, Monroe, MI, 48161. A memorial service celebrating Bruce's life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Monroe at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Katie Waggoner, pastor of the church, will officiate.
