Brenda Lee Hoyt, age 72, of Monroe, passed away at home on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Born on August 13, 1952, Brenda was the oldest of four children descended from former Monroe County Sheriff Walter O. and Juanita M. (Barnes) Trowbridge. Brenda was a 1970 Monroe High School graduate who dedicated her life to loving and caring for her family. Introduced five years earlier by mutual family friends, on June 7, 1974, she married her true love, James "Jim" E. Hoyt. Brenda and Jim built a wonderful, full life of adventures and stories, children and grandchildren. This past summer, they were fortunate to celebrate their fiftieth anniversary with many friends and family gathered to share tales of the past and to dance into the night.
Brenda was the lifeblood of traditions and festivities. No birthday would pass without her sending a care package of treats and gifts, and holiday gatherings were flawlessly hosted, ensuring that each person felt a special, unique place at the table. She was a magician in the kitchen, and her love of painting and craftwork served as a creative outlet and yet another way she would demonstrate her affection to those around her. Rooted in a family of larger-than-life personalities, she was a matriarch in her own right. Affectionately referred to as "The Sarge," her role as a guiding force in her family was undeniable. She was a best friend, a confidant, a caregiver, a defender, a jokester, an advocate, a devoted daughter, a sister, an aunt, a mother, a grandmother, a wife, a one-of-a-kind, and irreplaceable.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Hoyt, two loving children, James (Jennifer) Hoyt and Carrie Hoyt; three siblings, Cindy Marcero, Linda Trowbridge, and Robert (Susan) Trowbridge; two beloved grandchildren, James and Karl Hoyt; two nephews, Joshua (Tiffany) and Christopher (Holly) Williams, a niece Dana Trowbridge (Steven) Mette, sisters-in-law, Elaine (Charles) Mushung and Nancy (Ed) Kelley; a host of loved ones and family living in Arizona; and her treasured granddogs Chester, Sammy, and Charlie.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Juanita Trowbridge; an infant son; her nephew Joseph M. Liedel; and sister-in-law Prudence "Prudy" Benore.
Memorials can be made to the Humane Society of Monroe County (or preferred chapter), a cause dear to Brenda.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161 beginning at 12 noon where a memorial service celebrating Brenda's life will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
