Bobby Vinson, 73, formerly of Monroe, passed away in his home in Toledo Ohio on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born April 23, 1937 in Covington, GA to Albert and Edna (Pledger) Vinson. He came to Monroe in 1954 in 1958 married Priscilla Montague. They had five Children: Bobby, Yvonne, Josephine, Belinda and Anthony.
Bobby's first job was with Ed Bray's carwash on Monroe Street. He did a short stint with C&C Car Wash and for 8 years worked for Groulx Oldsmobile, then four years at Gratton Construction. In 1968 he worked for Consolidated Paper Company until the plant closed. In 1978, he went to work for Nabisco in Toledo until his retirement in December of 2000.
His favorite hobby was playing Poker; he liked entertaining family and friends; and he enjoyed collecting antiques and nick- knacks which lead him to open "Vinson's Stop 'N Shop" in Toledo, Ohio. His motto was "If he didn't have it, they didn't make it."
Bobby leaves to cherish his memory 4 sons: John T Porter, Toledo Ohio, Bobby Terry Vinson and Anthony Q. Vinson of Monroe, and Shane Haase of Lincoln Park; Four daughters: Rita L. (James) Austin of Toledo, Ohio; Yvonne L. (Jeffery) Goree of Homewood, IL; Josephine E. (Alphonso) Elston of Monroe, MI and Belinda Vinson, of Toledo, OH. He had 5 step-children James Bishop, Jr., Tina (Harvey) Morehead, Karen L. Bishop, Sharon L. Bishop and Oyama (Carri) Bishop all of Toledo Ohio; a brother; Albert "JC" (Mattie) Vinson, Jr. of Decatur, GA; Two (2) sisters Betty (Robert) Hoskins of Monroe, MI and Yvonne (Johnny) Reid of Social Circle, GA. 23 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.
Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Robert & James Vinson.
Funeral services are set for Saturday, July 17th. He will lie in state from 11:00 am until funeral services celebrating his life at 12 noon at Monroe Full Gospel Church, 5337 E. Albain Road, Monroe, MI. The Reverend Alfred Overstreet of Al Overstreet Evangelistic Ministry, Monroe will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (family hour/prayer service from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) at The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 South Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI 48161.
Memorial gifts in Bobby's name may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
