Lovingly known as "HoneyBee", Billie Jean Spangler went home to be with her Jesus on Sunday, September 28, 2008 after fighting a 5 month battle of kidney cancer.
She was born in Middlesboro, KY and was one of three daughters born to Edna (Lawson) and Ernest Horton. A move north brought the family to Monroe, Michigan. It was there she met and married William F. Spangler on August 21, 1947. They were blessed with a son named Thomas R. Spangler. They made their home in Monroe until they moved to Jasper, Indiana in the year of 1994. HoneyBee carried within her a servant's heart. She was continually ministering to someone through prayer, sending them a card, visitation or cooking them a meal. Her compassion even spilled over to taking care of stray dogs that would come into her life, loving them and giving them a good home and a full belly. Her grandchildren were her jewels and her great-grandchildren brought her such joy and purpose. Her unique style of dress was always complimented by a beautiful pair of high heels. She took pride in her home, loved to drive in a new car and always listened to Billy Graham and Charles Stanley. She was never ashamed to talk to anyone about the love of Jesus she had in her heart. She was a life-time member of Monroe Assembly of God in Monroe, MI. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years: William "Bo" Spangler of Jasper, IN; her devoted son and daughter-in-law: Thomas R. and Penny S Spangler of Jasper, IN. Her grandchildren are Amy (Spangler) Traylor of Jasper, IN; and Thomas (Tom-Tom) Spangler of Indianapolis, IN. Great-grandchildren are: Alax, Dakota, Devon and Abbey Traylor and Noah and Luke Spangler. Also surviving is her sister and brother-in-law: Evelyn and Barney Allen of Monroe. Also her two dogs: Sadie and Rambeau.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the Monroe Assembly of God, located on Washington St in Monroe. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the church at 2:00 p.m. Rev. E. W. Jukuri will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
