Obituary

Betty L. "Betsy" Platt, age 82, a resident of Monroe, MI for the past 2 years passed away Friday, April 17, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, OH. Betsy had been in declining health for the past 2 years. Betsy was born December 16, 1926 in Dallas, TX the daughter of the late Louis E. and Lona L. (Dalkins) Livingstone. On January 31, 1952 in Fort Worth, TX Betsy married her beloved husband Charlie Burt Platt. Sadly, he preceded her in death on April 12, 1979. A resident of Texas for most of her life, Betsy worked for LTV Corporation until her retirement in 1985. After retirement Betsy worked as a horticulturist, tending to plants and trees at a local mall. Betsy was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and it's Altar Guild in Terrell, TX and while in Monroe she attended Trinity Episcopal Church and was a member of the ECW. Betsy was a member of the Monroe Senior Citizens in Monroe and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Texas. Betsy enjoyed reading, gardening and most of all her family. Betsy is survived by her loving daughter and son in law; Patsy and James Magee of Monroe, 2 cherished grandchildren William Self and George E. Platt Jr., and 2 treasured great grandchildren Halie M. and Jesie Self. In addition to her parents and husband, Betsy was preceded in death by her son and daughter in law, George E. and Susan Lee (Gillespie) Platt Sr., a granddaughter Patricia L. Platt and a brother Harold L. Livingstone. Visitation will be held in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Roy Southerland pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. After services in Monroe, Betsy will be taken to Roselawn Funeral Home in Seagoville, TX where the Rev. David Gibbs will officiate funeral services on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Crandall Cemetery in Crandall, TX. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may make them to a Hospice of your choice.
