Obituary

Bernice Rosemary Deering, age 98 of Monroe, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Alice Lorraine Care Center. She had been residing at ALCC since April and was under the care of Custom Hospice and Dr. Mark Snider, MD for the past nine days.
Born on April 22, 1927 in Maumee, OH, Bernice was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Bernice (Hill) Durham. She graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo in 1945 and moved to Monroe in 1948.
Bernice married Henry Luther Deering on June 29, 1948 in Angola, IN. She was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone in Monroe as a supervisor until she left the workforce when she was expecting her first child.
Bernice was a 70+ year member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed Frenchtown Charter Senior tours and other travels through Frenchtown Charter Bus Tours. She had a fondness for the outdoors and enjoyed gardening.
Bernice is survived by her two sons, Brian (Jeanne) Deering of Monroe and Dr. Bradley (Julie) Deering, DDS of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Jessica (Nicholas) Beverly of Temperance, Alexander Deering of Dallas, TX, and Jacob Deering of Houston, TX.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers: Lawrence Durham, Jr., Donald Durham, and Daniel Durham; three sisters: Dorothy Woods, Cora Morey, and Eva Mae Clancy; and granddaughter, Jennifer DeBruyne.
Bernice will lie in state at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1st at St. Joseph Cemetery in their Chapel of Light Mausoleum. At 11 a.m., Rev. Rey Mondragon, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will lead a chapel service prior to her entombment. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family.
