Obituary

Benjamin Franklin Jones, 64, of Monroe, died at 6:10 PM, Friday, October 27, 2006 in the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where he had been for a week. He had been in poor health for 2 years and seriously ill for 6 months. He was born April 19, 1942 in Eufaula, AL to Frank and Erma Lee (Colbert) Jones, they moved to Detroit in 1944, then on to Monroe in 1946. Benjamin was a 1960 graduate of Monroe High School and attended the 2nd Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid musician with a great love of music; over the years he had played the drums in several bands that performed not only locally, but also around Michigan and in Ohio. He enjoyed visiting casinos. He leaves to mourn a brother, Colton L. of Monroe, sisters, Annie Lee (John) Rocker of Romulus and Geraldine (Joe) Buford of Belleville, sister-in-laws, Saline and Emma Jones of Monroe, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sadly, his parents, four brothers, Willie, Cutis, Ernest, and Robert Lee, and a sister, Suvilla Mae Hudson preceded him in death. Friends may call 1-8 PM Wednesday at the Bacarella Funeral home where a family hour will be held that night from 7-8 PM. He will lie in state Thursday at the 2nd Missionary Baptist Church from 12 Noon until services celebrating his life at 1PM. The Rev. Allen C. Overton, pastor of 2nd Missionary Baptist Church and Rev. Alfred Overstreet of Evangelistic Ministry will officiate. Memorial gifts in his name may be given to the American Cancer Society.
