Barbara Ann Bukowski Schwab, 67 years, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 surrounded by her family. She had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006 and this started her on the fight of her life. She was born on February 25th, 1942, to Arthur Francis and Genevieve Josephine (Zawadzki) Bukowski in Chicago, Illinois. In 1972, she married John (Jack) Charles Schwab at St. Joseph Church in Summit, Illinois. Barbara is survived by her husband, Jack, her daughter, Erica, her son-in-law, Andre', her grandsons Kevin and Andrew and dear friends Thomas and Nancy Kroupa. She is also survived by members of the Dale and Mary DeSloover family, a sister, Kathleen L. Jankowski, and nieces and nephews. Barbara attended Mt. Assisi Academy High School in Lemont, Illinois, and was a Missionary Sister Servant of the Holy Spirit for 12 years and was known as Sister Regina Marie. She obtained her RN from St. Therese Hospital School of Nursing in Waukegan, Illinois, graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, and with a master's degree in behavioral psychology from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. During her lifetime, she was employed at hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, Fostoria and Findlay, Ohio, and Monroe, Michigan, and at the Monroe County Community Mental Health Authority. Barbara was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was on the boards of Home, Inc., and the Linswood Condominium Association. Her favorite hobby was being with her grandsons. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe where a wake service will be held at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, February 13, 2010 she will lie instate at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 924 E. Second St. in Monroe, from 11:00 AM until Mass Of The Resurrection celebrating her life at 12 Noon. Fr. William Fisher, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
