Anne M. Poirier, age 90 of Monroe, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2025 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born October 7, 1934 in Lowell, MA, Anne was the daughter of the late Louis and Alice (O'Hearn) LaFlamme. She graduated from Edwin Denby High School in Detroit in 1951 and earned a Bachelor Degree from Wayne State University in 1955. On August 20, 1955, Anne married Donald R. Poirier in Detroit. Together they raised seven children.
Anne's long working career began as a school teacher in Detroit before coming to Monroe where she became a 3rd grade teacher at the former Christiancy Elementary School. She then worked at the Secretary of State office for 15 years and Lake Erie Transit for 4 years before moving to Grayling, MI in 1987. While residing there, she was employed by Crawford County Commission on Aging until she retired and moved back to Monroe in 2010.
Anne believed in the importance of education and family, political and civic involvement, civil and equal rights for all people. She was a founding member of Monroe Council 1266 Lady Knights and enjoyed bowling, music and dancing, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and British Murder Mysteries.
Anne is survived by her children: Michael Poirier of Monroe, Daniel (Patty) Poirier of Monroe, Kevin (Patti) Poirier of Monroe, Mark Poirier of Wayne, MI, Paul (Starre) Poirier of Monroe, Patrick (Jennifer) Poirier of Perrysburg, OH, and Suzanne (Scott) Moreno of Lincoln Park, MI; a sister, Ellen (Rob) Florkey of Chesterfield, MI; five grandchildren: Anne Poirier, Robbie Poirier, Aaron Poirier, Ali Poirier, and Kaela Moreno; and great-grandson, Kaleb Austin.
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Poirier, a sister, Millie LaFlamme, and longtime companion, Michael Davis.
Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. until time of funeral at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31st at Bacarella Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. David Burgard, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be privately attended by family at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations to go to support mom's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Hospital.
