Obituary

Angeline M. Harwood, 86 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 12, 2023 in her home with her loving family at her side.
Born December 29, 1936 in Ionia, Michigan, Angie was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Giovannina (Mercadante) Plantamura. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. She also attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic Elementary School and was a 1954 graduate of their high School.
On August 21, 1954, Angie married her beloved husband, Edwin R. Harwood, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The couple moved to Monroe in 1964.
Angie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Monroe, where she was on the Altar Society and helped with funeral luncheons. While her kids attended Custer Elementary School, she helped out as a room mother. She was also a member of The Thrift Shop Association of Monroe for over 40 years. Angie enjoyed reading, dancing, traveling, watching the Detroit Tigers, spending time at the family horse farm, and watching their horses race at various standard bred horse tracks. Angie was also a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed entertaining and cooking for friends and family. She was known for her amazing chocolate chip cookies and her delicious meatballs. Most of all Angie enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family. She could often be found at any event that her children and grandchildren participated in.
Angie is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Ed, three loving children: John I. (Pamela) Harwood of Grosse Ile, Yvonne M. (Mark) Davison of LaSalle, and Bryan P. (Nancy) Harwood of Monroe, a loving daughter in law, Pamela K. Harwood of Monroe, 17 cherished grandchildren, 14 treasured great grandchildren, a brother, Giuseppe Plantamura and a sister, Theresa (Dirk) Spyker, both of Bradenton, FL.
In addition to her parents, Angie was preceded in death by her son Edwin L. Harwood, two great grandchildren and two brothers: Gus and Vito.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 – 8 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161. On Saturday, June 17, 2023 she will lie in state at St. Mary Catholic Church, 127 North Monroe St. Monroe, Michigan, 48162 beginning at 10:00 am followed by Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life at 11:00 am. Fr. David Burgard will be the celebrant and Deacon Mike Stewart will be the homilist. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to St. Mary Catholic Church.
