Alfred E. Haines, 93 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 6, 2015 in his home at Camp Lord Willing RV Park and Campground in Monroe.
Born September 13, 1921 on the family homestead in Carleton, Michigan, Alfred was the son of the late Oran A. and Iona (Deck) Haines. He attended Carleton Schools.
Alfred served his country honorably and proudly as a United States Marine during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He served from July 7, 1942 to October 18, 1945.
On September 7, 1947 Alfred married his beloved wife the former Dolores Irene Harwood at Carleton Methodist Church. Sadly she preceded him in death on August 5, 2013 after 65 years of marriage.
In 1958 Alfred realized his dream and founded Camp Lord Willing RV Park and Campground. He has served as the president of the camp since its inception. He also retired from Ford Motor Company where he worked for 20 years. Alfred was an ordained minister who preached the Bible and wasn't concerned about denomination, just the word of the Lord. Alfred enjoyed hunting and fishing and will remembered as a true family man with a big heart and a compassion for people. His life truly revolved around his Campground and his family.
Alfred is survived by ten loving children: Alfred R. Haines, of Silicon Valley, CA, Ricky L. (Carolyn) Haines of Monroe, Pamela J. (Greg) Bentschneider of Toledo, OH, Sherrie D. Phillips of Monroe, Bridget S. Haines of Monroe, Candi B. Christian of Petoskey, MI, Brian S. Haines of Monroe, Joey J. Haines, Charles A. Haines of Monroe and Heather A. Haines of Milan, MI, 12 cherished grandchildren, and 16 treasured great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Alfred was preceded in death by an infant son Matthew, a grandson: Ricky Scott Haines, two sisters: Evelyn Sachs and Lillian Schaarschmidt and three brothers: Harry, Dwight, and Ralph Haines,
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161. On Saturday, April 11, 2015, he will lie in state at Camp Lord Willing RV Park and Campground, 1600 Stumpmier Rd., Monroe, MI 48162, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM when the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors, funeral services celebrating his life will immediately follow. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
