Albert "Iggy" Tomaro, 91 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
Born November 10, 1931 in Monroe, Iggy was the son of the late Anthony and Carmella (Tocci) Tomaro. He was a 1941 graduate of Monroe High School where he was vice president of his class and M-Club. While in high school Iggy was voted most athletic by his classmates, football being his favorite.
In 1950, during the Korean War, Iggy entered the United States Air Force. After 15 months of active duty, he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
In the seventh grade at Lincoln School Iggy became attracted to Theresa A. Sconocchia. Eventually they became a couple and while in the Air Force they were married on November 24, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe. Sadly, she proceeded him in death on November 6, 2022, just short of 71 years of marriage. From this union came two children, a son, Alan Anthony and a daughter, Terry Ann.
In 1953 at the age of 22, Iggy entered the business world. He continued working at the Ford Motor Company Plant in Production Control until 1957. He then entered the business world full time. Iggy was involved in several businesses, The Beer Stop, Monroe House of Travel, The Pop Stop, and the Colonial Building Office Complex. At the end of 1988, Iggy had sold all his interests and retired at the age of 55 years.
Iggy is survived by his son, Alan (Jane) Tomaro of Monroe and his daughter, Terry Ann (Raymond Leighton) Elinski of Lambertville, grandchildren: Mark (Lindsey) and Kurt (Trisha) Elinski, Alana (Chris Cornack) and James Tomaro, and Daniel Boberg, great grandchildren: Ashleigh and Damian Boberg, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Iggy was proceeded in death by six brothers: Frank, Mike, and Joseph Volpi, Art, John, and Alfred Tomaro, and three sisters: Angeline and Josephine Albano and Viola Ucci.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, from 11:00 am until funeral services celebrating Iggy's life at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors.
