Obituary

Albert Ross Shepherd, age 83, of Monroe, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 30, 2025 in his home surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Heartland Hospice.
He was a 1959 graduate of Clear Fork High School in West Virginia. Ross proudly served his country in the US Air Force.
Ross was born November 15, 1941 in Dorothy, West Virginia. He was the son of Van Buren and Alberta (Ward) Shepherd. He married Sharon K. Collins on September 6, 1969 in Monroe.
He was employed by Ford Motor Company at the Rawsonville Plant, retiring in 1998.
Ross had a passion for playing Horseshoes. He played at the annual Labor Day Festival at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie for over 20 years. He won many Horseshoe Tournaments through the years. He also enjoyed playing checkers, pool and Rummy. He rarely lost and everyone knew if they won, they truly earned the win. Ross was also an excellent woodworker. He made many heirlooms, including the baby cradles he made his daughters. Although he had many talents, the thing he was most known for was his kindness and compassion. There were many occasions where he would have his children get their extra clothes, shoes or bikes to give to children without. You could often find him in the backyard surrounded by neighborhood kids, giving them ice cream and soda. His generous heart left an imprint on everyone he met.
Ross is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon: three children; James (Silvia) Lester of Ravenna, TX, Pamela (Christopher) Moore of Mansfield, OH and Amanda (Jon) Ferguson of Monroe, MI: six grandchildren; Colton, Bailey, Cashton, Isaac, Jacob and Jenna: three great grandchildren; Kolt, Landyn and Lynnlee: and three siblings; Rodger (Bernice) Shepherd of Deerfield, MI, Terry (Claytina) Shepherd of Beckley, WV and Sandra (John) Urban of Kenna, WV.
He is preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Van Buren Shepherd, Lula Mae Taylor, Susie Kidwell, Lena Dobbs, Dora Anna Batts, Reba Plots, and Sharon Angle.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Bacarella Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating his life will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, May 5th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Massingill, pastor of North Monroe Street Church of God, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice.
