Agnes L. Shopshire, 75 years of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord at 8:30 am on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in Medilodge of Monroe. She had been in declining health for the past year.
Agnes was born June 14, 1935 in Camden NJ, the daughter of the late Hobert and Goldie (Lazette) Meyers. The family moved to Monroe when Agnes was just a child.
On June 5, 1951 in Angola, IN Agnes married her beloved husband Robert L. Shopshire.
Agnes was employed as a receptionist at the YMCA and then as a Pharmacists Technician at the Monroe Food Town until her retirement in 2001.
Agnes was a member of Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center where she sang in the choir and volunteered at various church events and functions. She also volunteered for Paula's House in Monroe. Agnes enjoyed watching the Detroit Pistons, playing tennis, and traveling. Autumn was Agnes's favorite season of the year, traveling on several occasions to the east coast to enjoy the beautiful fall colors.
More than anything Agnes was a homemaker and dedicated her life to the love of her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years; Robert, 6 loving children; Bryan R. (Robin) Shopshire of Monroe, Kevin J. (Beth) Shopshire of Howell, MI, Darin L. Shopshire of Monroe, Jeff A. (Lyndee) Shopshire of Monroe, Lisa L. Chappell of Southgate, MI and Amy R. (Mack) Johnson of Monroe, a brother Hobert (Alta) Meyers Jr. of Monroe, 2 sisters; Carol Lyons of Taylor, MI and Joyce (Frank "Sonny") Poley of Monroe, 14 cherished grandchildren, 19 treasured great grandchildren and 2 treasured step grandchildren. In addition to her parents Agnes was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe. On Friday, October 1, 2010 she will lie in state at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 AM. Rev. Sean O'Neal pastor of the church, the Rev. Sally Martin and the Rev. Fred Swank will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
