Ada M. Mayes, 89 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 2:07 PM surrounded by her family that she so dearly loved. Ada had been in declining health for the past 6 months. Ada was born February 9, 1920 in Tazewell, TN the daughter of the late George and Cora (England) Marsee. On November 2, 1941 in Middlesboro, KY, Ada married her beloved husband Byrd M. Mayes. Sadly he preceded her in death on June 4, 1991. In 1952 Ada and Byrd moved their family to Monroe. Ada enjoyed being a homemaker, but also worked for 15 years as a nurses aid at Beach Nursing Home in Monroe. Ada was a member of Roessler Street Church of God and also enjoyed attending services at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center. Ada enjoyed sewing, quilting, canning, flowers and gardening. Above all Ada enjoyed her family. Ada is survived by 5 loving children; Wayne (Gloria) Mayes of Monroe, Mack (Jean) Mayes of Erie, Margaret (Gilbert) Scott of Taylorsville, NC, Wilma J, Morgan of Monroe, and Kay (John) Eoff of Monroe, a stepdaughter Opha Thomas of Harlan, KY, 2 brothers; Calvin Marsee of Ecorse, MI, and Herbert (Fena) Marsee of Wyandotte, MI, a sister Gladys Phillips of Southgate, MI, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents Ada was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 7 brothers, a step daughter and a step son. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 5-8 PM and Sunday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Clarence W. VanConant pastor of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe or to the Karmanos Cancer Institute
