Ruth Ann Miller, age 84 of Monroe, passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 13, 2022 in her home with her loving husband by her side. Born September 9, 1937 in Monroe, Ruth was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (McBee) Harmon. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Monroe High School with the class of 1955. Shortly after high school, Ruth married Darrell Hurst and from this union had three children. They were married for twelve years until he passed away in 1970. Several years later, she was married to Richard Cole until his passing in 1985. Ruth worked several jobs through the years, most notably Peoples Federal Savings and Loan. She was blessed with wonderful family members and friends who helped her during difficult times. In 1993, Ruth met Gerald F. Miller. They fell in love and were wed on November 5th of that year at Zion Lutheran Church. They have since enjoyed over 28 incredible years together. Family gatherings and holidays were very special to Ruth. She enjoyed shopping and going to lunch with her friends, taking care of her home and flower gardening. With her husband Jerry, they enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome with their Bichon, Molly. One of their favorite destinations during the winter was staying at Word of Life RV Park and Bible Institute in Florida. Together, they also enjoyed Christian tours and music concerts, and Sunday worship at Heritage Baptist Church where they were members. Ruth is survived by her husband Jerry; daughter, Kelli (John) Burman of Monroe; Daughter-in-law Robin Hurst of Monroe, son, Matthew (Michelle) Hurst of Lambertville; Brother, Wayne (Margaret) Harmon, Sisters-in-law, Patricia and Karen Harmon, all of Monroe; Brothers-in-law, George (Judy) Miller, John (Brenda) Miller, and Sister-in-law Marilyn (John) Gagne of Monroe, grandchildren Lauren Burman, Jacob Burman, Darrell Hurst, Ella Hurst, Matthew Hurst, Colin Hurst, and Justin Hurst; and great-grandson, Bowie Burman. In addition to her parents and husbands, Ruth was also preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Hurst; grandson, Kyle Hurst; brothers, Kenneth and Clyde Harmon; sister, Jean Burt; and brother-in-law, Adrian Burt. Family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Ruth will lie in state at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Baptist Church where services will be held at 11 a.m. The church pastor, Rev. Nate Click will officiate followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family encourages memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Heritage Baptist Church.
