Ronald Dean LaBeau

Ronald Dean LaBeau, 78 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. Born December 12, 1943, in Monroe, Ron was the son of the late James M. and Elizabeth M. (Hess) LaBeau. He was a 1962 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School, where he was class president and excelled at football, basketball, and baseball. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Michigan to play football from which he received his bachelor’s degree in 1966. In 1971 he earned his MBA degree from Eastern Michigan University. He is also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, and the Graduate School of Commercial Lending in Oklahoma. On August 25, 1967, Ron married Patricia M. “Pam” McCormick at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe. Ron began his career in banking in 1968 working at First National Bank of Monroe, which became Security Bank, which then became First of America Bank. He was named President and CEO of First of America Bank in 1991. Ron joined Monroe Bank and Trust in 1994 where he was named President and CEO in March of 1999. He retired in 2004. Ron was active in numerous civic endeavors. He served as president of the Monroe Exchange Club, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, and Monroe Golf and Country Club. He was a former member and treasurer of the Monroe Industrial Park Development Committee and served as secretary of the Frenchtown Salary Compensation Committee. He served as president of SMCC School Board and was a member of the local University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University alumni associations as well the Monroe Catholic Central alumni association. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was baptized and confirmed and a member of Monroe Club. Ron traveled extensively, his favorite trip being a tour of China. He enjoyed golfing with his friends in Scotland, yearly trips to Hilton Head with his nieces and nephews, and yearly trips with Pam to Palm Springs and Mexico. Ron and Pam enjoyed spending time at their summer home in Sand Point, Michigan, where he was a member of the Sand Point Association and Scenic Golf and Country Club. Ron was a season ticket holder for both basketball and football at the University of Michigan. His hobbies included playing golf and poker. Ron is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pam, five siblings: James M. LaBeau, Jr., Mary L. (Mark) Sisco, Thomas J. (Doris) LaBeau, Beth A. Dusseau, and Jonathan P. (Amy) LaBeau, a sister-in-law, Miriam LaBeau, 26 nieces and nephews and 45 great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother Frederick A. LaBeau, in-laws, Edward J. and Margaret McCormick, brothers-in-law John McCormick and Thomas Dusseau and nephews Jeffrey Dusseau and E. J. McCormick, III. Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-6 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161. On Monday, September 26, 2022, memorial visitation will continue at St. Mary Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 am where Mass of the Resurrection, celebrating Ron’s life, will begin at 10:30 am. Fr. David Burgard will be the celebrant. In keeping with Ron’s wishes cremation has been held and interment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to SMCC High School, Paula’s House or Gabby’s Grief Center.
