Okey Mullins

Okey Mullins, 72, of Newport passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013 Okey was born on August 22, 1941, in Paynesville, West Virginia. He was the son of Harrison and Rhoda Mullins. He was married on July 8, 1961 to Theodosia Reed in Virginia. They moved to Monroe, Michigan in 1966, where he began employment with McLouth Steel in Gibraltar, Michigan for 30 years, retiring in 1996 as a crane operator. He is survived by his wife, Theodosia (Theo) Mullins of Newport, a son, Gary Mullins and wife Regina Mullins of Monroe, a daughter, Sharon Mullins and fiancé Sean Farris of Newport, a son, Kenneth Mullins of Newport. Three grandchildren, Bryce Mullins, Holly Mullins and her fiancé Tyler French, and Cole Mullins of Newport. Two sisters, Maggie Mullins and Opal Vance, both of Monroe. One brother Vester Mullins and wife Molly Mullins of Jolo, West Virginia and sister in law, Virgie Mullins of Paynesville, West Virginia. He is also survived by caring and loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins and an enormous amount of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lawson Mullins, an infant brother Miles Mullins, brother in law Lonnie Vance, and nephew Thurman Mullins. After Okey retired, he spent his time working on cars, traveling to bluegrass music festivals in his motor home and attending car shows. He enjoyed his Friday nights at The Kentuckians Club in Romulus and his Saturday nights at Flat Rock Eagles listening to live bluegrass music. He could be heard talking on his cb radio every morning. He had a great time going out to eat with his wife, his sisters and his grandson, Bryce. Okey was a friend to everyone he met, words cannot express the way Okey touched people's lives, whether he was fixing your car, lending a hand to anyone. Okey will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him. Friends may call at the Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe MI 48161. Visitation will be at 1pm to 8pm on Thursday. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 1pm on Friday, October 25, 2013. Pastor Guy Clifton Ervin of First Christian Baptist Church of Newport will officiate. Interment will follow at Huron Valley Cemetery.
