Octavia M Cappuccilli (Tavi), age 88 passed away Tuesday March 2, 2021 at Story Point senior living facility in Saline MI. She had been living in Saline for the past few years. Tavi’s health had been declining for the past 6 months and she died peacefully during the early morning hours. Tavi was born March 20, 1932 in Monroe MI to Curtis J. and Minnie Bell (Clark) DuRocher and was a lifelong resident until she moved to Saline. Tavi married former Monroe Mayor, C.D. Al Cappuccilli on August 11, 1951 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Monroe. They were life members of the church where she sang in the choir for 30 years. From the union of this marriage they were blessed with five children. Tavi was very active and involved in the community, she served on the Monroe County Chapter for Crippled Children and adults, Chairperson of Easter Seals Drive for Holiday Camp funding, Mercy Hospital Guild, the Lioness Club, sustaining member of the Monroe Thrift shop, member of Town & Country Garden Club, member of the campaign committee to help establish a community college in Monroe County, a lifetime member of the Sawyer House Women’s Center. Tavi was an avid bridge player and also taught bridge for beginners through Monroe Public School Community Education Program. Tavi’s employment history includes Election Inspector for the City of Monroe, Librarian for Monroe County Library System, and the Michigan Department of Secretary of State from where she retired in 1992. Tavi is survived by her children: David (Irene) Cappuccilli of Ft. Myers, FL, Craig (Mary) Cappuccilli of Monclova, OH, Heidi (Rick) Webb of Monroe, Stacey (Ray) Langton of Carleton, and Darby (Chris) Kolano of Saline, MI; seven siblings: Virginia Navarre of Seattle, WA, Helen Patterson of DeWitt, MI, Velma Halverson of Elmhurst, IL, Kathryn (Richard) Friedman of San Francisco, CA, Susan (Roger) Playwin of Grosse Pointe, MI, Barbara (Bud) Golubic of Monroe, and James (Cindy) DuRocher of Ida; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Tavi is preceded in death by her parents; husband Al; four siblings: Leona Bonifacio, Donald DuRocher, Joseph DuRocher, and Beata Wahl. Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bacarella Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Tavi will lie in state at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. David Burgard. Cremation will take place following the funeral. Her earthly remains will be interred with her beloved husband at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the C.D. Al Cappuccilli Memorial Scholarship Fund to assist with student tuition costs. Checks may be made payable to SMCC with memo to Cappuccilli Memorial Fund. Tavi will always be remembered by her family as a loving, caring, and giving mother and grandmother.
