Michael Drew Collum

Michael D. Collum, age 61, of Monroe, passed away February 27, 2021 in his home after a long struggle with ALS. Michael was born February 3, 1960 in Monroe, he was the son of Harry J. and Elma (Nickles) Collum, Sr. He married Frances Williams June 24, 1978. He attended Monroe High School. He was employed as a crane operator at Gerdau Steel before his having to take a medical retirement. Michael was an avid hunter, he especially enjoyed deer hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Frances Collum of Monroe; two children, Joseph Collum and Candice (Josh Bess) Collum both of Monroe; five brothers, Harry (Bonnie) Collum of Monroe, Brian (Dawn) Collum of Monroe, Kenneth Collum of Monroe, Ronald (Lisa) Collum of Monroe and John Collum of Monroe; two sisters, Patricia Smith of Monroe and Peggy (Wade) Tolle of Monroe. He is preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Bert Collum. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Road. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Fr. Raymond Lewandowski officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the ALS Association.
