Mary Louise (Cardwell) Buckingham

August 9, 1923 - April 10, 2022

Mary Louise (Cardwell) Buckingham, 98 years of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in her home. Born August 9, 1923 in Friendsville, TN, Mary was the daughter of the late Homer M. and Annas Pearl (Hackney) Simerly. She was a 1943 graduate of Friendsville High School. On September 1, 1944 Mary married Woodrow W. Cardwell in Rossville, GA. They moved to Monroe in 1946, Sadly, he preceded her in death on February 10, 1974. On March 20, 1993 Mary married Kenneth P. Buckingham at Calvary United Methodist Church in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on July 2, 2015. In 1944 Mary took her first job working at the Employment and Housing Office for the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN. After moving to Monroe she worked for La Z Boy and Mercy Memorial Hospital. Mary was also a wonderful homemaker. Mary was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Ash and Frenchtown Senior Citizens, and the VFW Post 4093 Ladies Auxiliary in Carleton. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, and traveling. Most of all Mary loved time spent with family. Mary is survived by her loving son, Kenneth E. Cardwell of Monroe, three stepchildren: Larry (Lenora) Buckingham of Carleton, Francine Herzog, and Yvonne (Jon) Chance of Maybee, two granddaughters: Traci Cardwell and Trisha (Robert) Burgess, nine step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Sandra Cardwell, stepson, Kenneth Buckingham, two sisters: Virginia Rogers and Frances Cardwell, three grandchildren: Mark, Matthew, and Todd, and two great grandchildren: Brandon and Brent. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 11:00 am. Rev. Heather Boone will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Oakes of Righteousness Christian Ministries.
