Kenneth Joe Shopshire

February 16, 1934 - March 22, 2022

Kenneth Joe Shopshire, age 88 of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Toledo ProMedica Hospital. He had been in declining health for three months. Born February 16, 1934 in Monroe, Joe was the son of the late Horace and Florence (Cadle) Shopshire. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1952 and married Shirley Armitage on February 14, 1959 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Toledo, OH. Together they raised two children. Sadly, she preceded Joe in death on April 12, 1998. Joe was employed for 30 years by Ford Motor Company in Monroe, retiring in 1987. He was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. He taught his children admirable work ethics and the value of a dollar. Joe attended Stewart Road Church of God and enjoyed traveling, especially to various National Parks throughout the U.S. He had a fondness for animals, notably for his pet dogs. He liked listening to a variety of music genre but George Jones was his favorite. Joe’s favorite ways to pass the time included watching the Nature program on PBS, going for 2 mile walks Monday through Friday, and frequenting the Monroe Center on S. Dixie Highway where he enjoyed their comradery, food, activities, and social atmosphere. Joe is survived by his children, Todd Shopshire of Perrysburg, OH and Brenda (Del Taylor) Shopshire of Dundee, MI; sister, Wilma “Bootsie” Asher of Monroe; grandson, Joshua (Stacey Watkins) Shopshire; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Joe is also preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Bill, and Jay Shopshire, and a sister, Margaret Brooks. Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 27th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Pastor James Brown of Calvary Baptist Church in Dundee will officiate followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. All attending are politely asked to wear facial covering. For anyone considering making a donation in memory of Joe, his family suggests supporting the Monroe Center, 15275 S. Dixie Hwy., Monroe, MI 48161. A kind and friendly man, Joe will be missed by many, but greeted by so many more. “You can’t stop a loved one’s journey toward eternity, but you can try to see them safely to the border” Online condolences and special memories may be shared with the family by visiting the obituary page at www.bacarellafuneralhome.com.
