Harold W. "Sonny" Wilson

Harold W. "Sonny" Wilson, 82 years, of Monroe, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 10, 2015 in his home with his loving family at his side. Born May 28, 1933 in Palmyra, Michigan, Sonny was the son of the late Clarence V. and Grace L. (Henderson) Wilson. Sonny was a graduate of Adrian High School. Sonny served his country honorably and proudly, first, in the United States Air Force and then in the United States Navy. Sonny served four years in the Air Force and 16 years in the Navy. For his service, Sonny received numerous awards, ribbons and commendations, including the Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. He served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk and pitched softball for the All Navy Team, he retired from the Navy in 1972. After his retirement from the Navy, Sonny worked out of Laborers Local 1191 from which he retired in 1993. It was during his time in the Air Force that Sonny met, fell in love with and on April 30, 1954 married the former Ann V. Floyd in Urbana, Illinois. Sonny was a member of Raisinville United Methodist Church. He was an excellent athlete and enjoyed playing softball. He also enjoyed buying and trading cars. Sonny's favorite past time was fishing and loved teaching his children and grandchildren to fish as well. Most of all Sonny enjoyed time spent with family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ann, three loving children: Thomas W. Wilson, Beth Ann (Lee) Wilson both of LaSalle, MI and Tina L. Wilson of Monroe, five cherished grandchildren: Lee A. Wilson, IV, Anna B. Wilson, Thomas S. Wilson, Daniel M. (Ashleigh) Vuich, III, and Jennifer L. (Michael) Duailibi, four treasured great grandchildren: Andrew, Jackson, Gunner, and Dominick, and one great grandchild on the way. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by two sisters. Visitation and funeral services at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, will be private. He will be interred at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to Promedica Hospice of Monroe, Alliance for Spay/Neuter and Pet Rescue, and MSPCA.
