Frank "Big Ace" Small, Sr.

Frank "Big Ace" Small, Sr., 80, of Monroe passed away at home surrounded by his caring family on Friday, May 27, 2016. He was born October 24, 1935 in Washington, PA to Alonzo and Allie (McNutt) Small. Frank was a 1953 graduate of Chartiers High School in Houston, PA, where he played basketball. After school he proudly served our country in the US Air Force. He moved to Monroe in 1968, then on January 26, 1969 he married Myra J. Lavender. Frank was employed by Detroit Edison for 20 years, retiring in 1995. He then worked as a porter at Momentum Lincoln Mercury. He was a proud member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church, and enjoyed golfing. He was a member of the Dundee Golf Club, enjoyed traveling, and driving, and loved jazz. He will be remembered as being a VERY avid Pittsburg Steelers fan, but mostly for being a family man. He loved to watch his grandchildren, and support and watch them play sports. He was always heard to say "Hey, Hey, Hey", "The Ball Don't Lie", and "Live Today For Tomorrow You May Be Dead". Frank was also an uncle, father, grandfather to so many other kids. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years, Myra; 4 children, Patricia A. Ward of Monroe, Cathy B. Lavender of Detroit, Frank A. (Jennifer) Small Jr. of Monroe, and Vedette R. Small of Monroe; a special son, Adrian Clark; 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and many more relatives and friends. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held be held Saturday, June 4 from 10 AM - 12 PM at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 South Telegraph Road. Family hour will be from 12-1 PM, and funeral services to commemorate his life will start at 1 PM. Rev. Allen Overton, pastor of Second Missionary Baptist Church will officiate, and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, where the VFW Post #1138, Monroe will conduct a graveside service in his honor.
